Poem

The Second coming

By Anthony Muchoki

Yeats’ ‘The Second Coming’

Never came

Though anarchy remained

Loosed upon the world

Achebe’s ‘Things Fall Apart’

Did really fall apart

Jesus lives on

He is yet to come back

Peter is still waiting

For Jesus centuries later

Okonkwo the champion

Remains living dead

Neo-colonialist fire

Lights our homes

The is no falcon

In Africa to hear

The falconer

Umuofia remains Onitsha

Abame massacres forgotten

Uhuru born in oven

Made by the colonizer

We live on

Celebrating

Forgotten dreams

Dreams of Somalia

Poverty amidst plenty

Mother Africa’s

Tears remain a river

As Kimathi buried

In unknown grave

Wails in pain

Abraham Husssein’s

‘Mashetani’ thrives on

‘Trials of brother Jero’

Have worsened

Ask Wole Soyinka

‘Kusadikika’

Have we?

Paying lip service

To Shabaan Robert

Where are we?

The second coming

Africa’s second coming

Shall come

The Amazons

Shall beat

‘Mashetani’

Then mama Africa

Shall be free

The second coming —
